Enhanced risk for severe weather Tuesday

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed our entire area in a slight risk for severe weather on Tuesday. Furthermore, southern location and to the south are under an enhanced risk. There are very few times in a year where a portion of our area is in an enhanced risk.

The best time for the storm tomorrow will be the afternoon. It will be another hot and humid day with high temperatures in the upper 80’s

The possible severe weather is a result of a strong cool front that will be moving through. Wednesday looks to be a cooler and less humid day.

Humidity looks to return on Thursday so enjoy it while it lasts!

Radar this morning shows some scattered mostly light showers in the area.

The above graphic shows 24 hr rain totals as of 7 am. Stewartsville recorded just over 1/2″ of new rain. Eastern sections of central Jersey received a lot of rain overnight.

We have a nearly stationary front over our area today. This front will move very little in the next 12 hours and will basically dissipate.

We will only have marginal chances of any severe weather today. Thankfully our high temperatures today will remain in the 80’s

Saturday will return us to the low 90’s and probably be the first of another heat wave. Dew points on Saturday will be lower than the past few days so it will feel better tomorrow. Higher dew points return on Sunday and Monday so enjoy it while it lasts!

SPC shows marginal risk of severe weather today

The Storm Prediction Center has our entire area in a marginal risk for severe weather later today and tonight. A weak cold front will be approaching and moving through the area later today and tonight. This will produce some scattered thunderstorms later today and tonight. At this time they don’t look to be very strong or in a squall line. Instead they look scattered. But keep in mind any thunderstorm can turn strong and deadly quickly. The old adage “when thunder roars, head indoors” is good advice.

We did have another heat wave as of yesterday. Tuesday was our third day in a row of high temperatures hitting 90 or better. Today will be close but we may stay just shy of the 90 degree mark. Even if the temperature doesn’t hit 90 the humidity will certainly make it feel that warm if not warmer.

5 Day NWS forecast

After today we should only see high temperatures in the 80’s for at least the next 5 days. Looking longer range temperatures should increase again somewhat later next week perhaps.

First heatwave of Summer 2016 will commence today. We will have at least three days of high temperatures at or above 90. To make it truly summer-like we will have healthy dose of humidity thrown in for good measure. That is one thing that has thankfully been somewhat reasonable this warm weather season so far. When it’s been warm the humidity has been reasonable.

Along with the heat and humidity will be summertime chances of late day thundershowers. I expect them to be quite isolated today but more numerous on Thursday and almost likely on Friday.

7day

And for those sensitive Wednesday will feature a code Orange air quality alert for western new jersey. This mean air pollution concentrations may become unhealthy for those sensitive.

Stewartsville NJ received 0.67″ of new rainfall as of 7 am this morning. As you can see in the radar above, we still have a few more heavier showers that will pass through western New Jersey this morning.

Then the next question is how much, if any additional rain will we receive this afternoon? It all depends on how much sunshine and how warm it gets. The early morning rain was cue largely to a warm front. If you haven’t stepped outside yet our friend humidity is back for a big visit. But a cold front will pass though later today and will probably result in some additonal showers.
