5 Day NWS Forecast

No this is not a reprise of Les Miserable – just one more day of the very hot and humid weather for western New Jersey. We then cool off about 10 degrees with a very comfortable weekend ahead with lower humidity.

Before we get there we may have some much needed rain from thundershowers on Friday. Details as we get closer.

First heatwave of Summer 2016 will commence today. We will have at least three days of high temperatures at or above 90. To make it truly summer-like we will have healthy dose of humidity thrown in for good measure. That is one thing that has thankfully been somewhat reasonable this warm weather season so far. When it’s been warm the humidity has been reasonable.

Along with the heat and humidity will be summertime chances of late day thundershowers. I expect them to be quite isolated today but more numerous on Thursday and almost likely on Friday.

7day

And for those sensitive Wednesday will feature a code Orange air quality alert for western new jersey. This mean air pollution concentrations may become unhealthy for those sensitive.

Heatwave

Western New Jersey had it’s first (and hopefully last) official heat wave this summer. What’s that you ask? “Dave it’s been plenty hot this summer!” Yes it has but to have an official heatwave you need three (3) days or more of high temperatures at 90 or above. We had that pleasure Saturday thru yesterday. I don’t think (hope) we get there today so the streak will be over. Even if it’s not as hot the humidity will make up for it in the next few days

While a scattered afternoon or evening thunderstorm is possible today in some spots, more frequent thundershowers are possible starting Thursday afternoon into Friday as a cold front approaches. The above map show the potential rain for our area through Saturday morning. We do need the rain – most areas have not received substantial rain in 7 days or more.

When the above cold front approaches our area it may not pass through right away and instead stall of the area. This will keep the humidity and chances for rain into at least Friday.
