Clouds have increased over most of western New Jersey this Friday morning. They should remain with us today. There will be two chances of rain this weekend. The first will be late tonight into the early morning hours of Saturday. This shouldn’t amount to too much. The second, as show above, will have more rain and wind with it. It should arrive late Saturday night and last into early Sunday morning.

We should see about 1″ of rain in western New Jersey area. It should be breezy if not windy too with the storm. So if you still have you holiday light up, either take them down while its still dry and somewhat mild (that’s my plan for today) or make sure they are secure.

Don’t get to used to the warmer weather that we will experience in western New Jersey today into the weekend. Colder and windy weather will be usher behind the storm on Sunday resulting in temperatures struggling to get above freezing the first half of next week. It is mid January after all…

Another cold night in western New Jersey. The cold temperatures were the result of clear skies and calm winds overnight that allowed temperatures to drop near the dew point in spots. With plenty of sunshine today we should have afternoon high temperatures in the mid to upper 30’s.

7day

After that the milder trend continues into the weekend. We should see high temperatures in the low 40’s on Thursday and Friday. There looks to be two chances of rain into the weekend. The first will be late Friday night into Saturday morning. Then again late Saturday night into Sunday morning. Due to the warmer weather this will be rain in our area.

Looking ahead colder weather looks to return next week. This should not be a surprise since it’s January!

Baby it’s cold outside! Map above courtesy of NJweather.org. Tuesday morning low temperatures in western New Jersey are in the single digits. Today will feature plenty of sunshine *and* a little less wind. That should make it slightly more bearable but it will still be cold. A little more relief comes Wednesday.

7day

Thursday is even warmer and back to above normal with high in the 40’s into the weekend.

If you stepped outside this morning in western New Jersey you know its cold outside! This is not unusual for early January – but it is unusual for us and the warmer than normal winter we had up to this point. Today and Tuesday will be the coldest part. There will be a stiff northerly breeze and could even be some snow flurries or light snow showers at times.

7day

We will begin to recover a little on Wednesday with highs back into the seasonable 30’s. Next chance of precipitation looks to be late Friday into the weekend. Right now it looks to be mostly rain but could start off and/or end as snow.

If you don’t mind the cold, tonight might be a good night to look at the meteor shower!

First off Happy New Year to all faithful blog readers! As you can feel in the air today, the new year and new month has brought a change in the weather. The above normal pattern appears to have finally changed. In fact while temperatures the next few days will be closer to normal for early January, they will feel much colder to us since we’re used to warmer weather.

And more is on the way for western New Jersey. Some of the coldest air of the young season will be moving into our area Monday into Tuesday. Both of those days will barely get above freezing and morning lows can be in the upper single digits or low teens’s.

Yes is is January and this type of weather isn’t all that unusual. We’ve all been spoiled by the warm start to winter. There were even a few snow flurries in sports today. As you can see in the above map there’s more to our west. The Lake Effect snow machine is on and will be giving the usual places snow.

With colder air in place we need to start watching for moisture and see if the two can coincide. There are some signs of traditional winter weather so stay tuned! And Happy New Year!

StormTotalSnowWeb1

The National Weather Service (NWS) has continued their winter weather advisory for tonight into early Tuesday morning. I’m expecting precipitation to break out over western New Jersey this evening from 7 pm – 10 pm. It could start out as a cold rain in some areas. Then the rain will cool the atmosphere a little more and the rain should mix if and possibly change to sleet for a few hours. Further to the north and west (near and north of I-80), especially in elevated areas, there could be some wet snow mixed in as well.

Warmer air will eventually take over and we should see all rain by the Tuesday morning commute. The changeover will take a bit longer further to the north and west. Given how warm the ground has been recently I expect little of any accumulation. At most there could be a little slush on colder surfaces like cars.

The most important thing to keep an eye on tonight is the air temperature. As long as we remain above freezing the roads and walkways should be fine. Bit some areas further to the north and west, as well as sheltered valleys, may have pockets of colder temperatures. In these areas we might see a little bit of freezing rain after the switch-over until the warmer temperatures make it to those areas as well.

I’ll have additional updates as warranted.

First and foremost Merry Christmas for all who celebrate! The weather in western New Jersey is certainly not very Christmas like with fog this morning and afternoon high temperatures to be in the mid 60’s!

7day

But we all knew the warm weather would have to come to an end sooner or later. Remember normal high temperatures for this time of year are in the upper 30’s!!

There will be some showers on and off from tonight into Sunday night. Monday morning looks rain free but then a storm system will be approaching our area Monday night into Tuesday. Enough cold air will start flowing into the area on Monday to give us high temperatures near normal. Monday night will feature a cold rain that will mix with sleet, especially in colder areas to the north and west and possibly mix with if not change to snow for a while. This all continues into Tuesday morning but warmer air will be arriving and should change us over to rain but mid day if not sooner. I don’t expect much if any in the way of accumulation at this point since the ground is still soo warm.

I’ll post updates on this as we approach. I just wanted to give a heads up wince there is a lot of family travel this time of year.

It’s quite foggy in some section of western New Jersey this Wednesday morning. Not good for anyone with last minute shopping to finish. PLease take your time.

northeast_loop (1)

More rain is on the way for this afternoon into the first part of this evening.

10177359_1190637494299171_5586683321780895374_n

I expect western New Jersey to receive anywhere from 1/2″ to 1″ of rain.

Then just in time for Christmas Eve, warm temperatures!

If I don’t get a chance to post again until after Christmas I want to wish all readers a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Thank you for reading my thought on weather for our area.
