Hopefully, everyone got a chance to get outside and enjoy our spring preview weather the past couple of days. I for one got outside and rode my bicycle for the first time this year.

Even though today will be cooler, it will still be above normal temperature-wise. Look for occasional rain today which should be less than 1/4″ total.

The rain will let up on Wednesday during the day but skies should remain cloudy and conditions will be damp. A second system will approach our area Wednesday overnight that will give us ore substantial rain. This will be the next step down in temperatures to several days of below normal temperatures

Strong gusty winds will accompany the colder temperatures Wednesday night into Thursday. Look for the potential of some scattered power outages along with tree damage.

Look for colder than normal temperatures with high temperatures in the 30’s for late week into the weekend. Or normal high temperatures now are in the low 40’s so we will end our warm month on a cooler note.

Not a fan of the colder windy weather? Don’t worry like most of this past winter it won’t last for more than a few days. Extended weather forecasts have us warming up quite nicely by the middle of next week!

Will there be any more snow this winter? Let’s just say nothing significant in the next 2 weeks. the graphic above shows the probabilities of receiving 3″ or more of snow now through March 11th. Ironically there could be some snow flurries or snow showers Thursday and Friday with the delivery of the colder temperatures but they shouldn’t amount to much in our area.

March is know for its wide swings in weather. This weekend will be no exception. Today will feature plenty of strong sunshine along with a biting and gusty northwest wind. The wind will make our high temperature of near 50 today feel more like the 30’s.

The winds will die down tonight and give us a chilly start to Sunday. High temperatures on Sunday will be in the upper 50’s to perhaps near 60 in some southern locations. Skies will start out sunny but increasing clouds in the afternoon with our next weather system ahead.

We can see some showers later Sunday night into Monday. The new week will start off on a chilly note of below normal temperatures but will recover nicely the second half of the week. Next weekend looks wonderful temperature wise at this time with highs well up into the 60’s if not near 70! Perhaps Spring will really spring up next weekend!

NWS snow forecast for Wednesday night

Hopefully everyone survived the wind and still have power. We actually lost power here in Stewartsville/Bloomsbury area for about an hour yesterday afternoon but thankfully came back on. I know many are still without power.

Today and tomorrow will be chilly days with high temperatures below our normal of 43f for this time of year. Look for high temperatures in the 30’s most of this week. Winds still be brisk but nothing like yesterday. We will still see some gusts to near 30 mph.

A weak system will approach our area from the north later on Wednesday. We should be cold enough to have all light snow arrive at night. The snow should be over before Thursday morning. Right now it looks like a light event that will have more snow to the north where most of the storm is passing.

My forecast is for a coating to 1″ with more to the north.

We look to have two more weak systems later this week into the weekend. They look weak and temperatures look to remain below normal for the next 10 days. But after that, can that be spring around the corner??!!

7day

Hopefully everyone in western New Jersey remembered to spring forward their clocks and to also change the batteries in your smoke detectors.

The main message I want to get across today is we have been so warm and above normal, many of us are thinking this is the norm. Sadly it’s not. So when we get a normal temperature day (upper 40’s for western New Jersey) it will feel like parka weather. Combine that with clouds, wind and rain will make people remember it’s March. We should get about 1/2″ of needed rain (it’s been dry lately). The rain will not totally clear out until later Tuesday.

Luckily the cold will not last too long and we will be back above normal in the upper 50’s Tuesday and the 60’s Wednesday and Thursday!

Remember the Ides of March!

Strong winds and thunderstorms possible later today

Western New Jersey received a trace of snow and sleet in the past 24 hours and about 1/3″ of rain.

even though Wednesday has started off raw and drizzling, it won’t finish that way. Warmer air will push into western New Jersey later today raising temperatures considerably.

Wwith this warmer weather will come chances for heavier rain and strong gusty winds.

Rainy Sunday morning across western New Jersey this Sunday morning. Good news is it’s warm outside and the steady rain is already over. But there will be showers on and off for the next several hours. Most areas have received about 1″ of rain – some areas more. Stewartsville so far received 0.89″ of rain.

7day

Colder air arrives for the work week as has been advertised before. Daytime highs will be in the 30’s. A fast moving clipper system will visit western New Jersey Tuesday afternoon and evening that will not only usher in another arctic cold front but some light snow. Look for a possible dusting in some areas. More on that as we get closer.

As we look long range there could be a slight warm up by end of next week but a storm is possible around next weekend and even another one after that. Remember: it’s is mid January!

Periods of rain will continue Wednesday for western New Jersey. So far we’ve received about 1/2″ of rain and we should receive another 1/3 – 1/2″ of rain today and tonight. Fog will continue to be dense at times.

As the system pulls away Thursday, the winds will be strong. Make sure any holiday decorations are secured! Fair and close to seasonable weather arrives Friday through Monday.

Radar20151112-0920

Western New Jersey has already seen some light rain this morning. Look for more periods of light rain to continue today. As seen in the above radar, some is about to move in from the SW. Look for amounts to be about 1/4″ in general.

This rain is associated with a fast moving cold front. This is tied to the same storm that brought snow to the Rockies. No we’re not going to get snow here – sort of. But it will get real windy on Friday as a result of the front pushing through and the intense storm passing by accompanied by high pressure moving in. Winds could easily gust to 40 mph. Please secure any holiday decorations. As always watch wet leaves on the roadways.

Up in the Poconos and far north west New Jersey on Saturday, there’s a chance of seeing some wet snow showers. Temperatures on Saturday will feel colder than they are due to the wind. Temperatures should stay most of the day in the 40’s and perhaps peeking at 50 for a daytime high. Winds should gradually diminish later on Saturday.

7Day

Western New Jersey was able to escape freezing temperatures this morning due to a wind that never died down and cloudy skies most of the night. However another cold night is forecast tonight. In fact it’s forecast to be a few degrees colder than last night. So please protect any sensitive plants if possible.

Snow showers were experienced in many areas of western New Jersey yesterday with the cold air in place. Today, while still below normal, should not see any showers but temperatures will remain below normal with windy conditions.

Next week should see temperatures closer to normal for this time of year. Still no heat waves in site at this point. If anything it will remain at or slightly below normal temperature wise into early May.

7day

Western New Jersey received about 1/2″ of rain since this time Saturday morning. Combined with the Friday night rainfall give us between 3/4″ and 1″ of ran. Thank goodness it didn’t all come at once!

Today we will see temperature in the mid to upper 40’s which is seasonable for this time of year. Unfortunately it will be accompanied by winds that will make it feel much cooler today.

Monday will be a nice day with high temperatures in the mid 50’s. But then a cold front will approach the area on Tuesday and bring below normal temperatures on Wednesday.
