Slight risk of severe weather Monday

An active weather day is on the way for Monday courtesy of the very mild weather we are experiencing. All the warm weather is going to lead to the potential for some severe weather as a cold front approaches the area this evening. The biggest threat will be strong gusty winds.

A line of showers with a few embedded thunderstorms is expected to cross the area late this afternoon into this evening.

Wind advisory later today

Speaking of strong winds, a wind advisory will be in effect this afternoon into this evening. Look for windy SW winds this afternoon that could gust up to 50 mph. When the front goes through this evening, winds will shift into the NW and continue to gust to 50 mph. Look for even high wind gusts if you receive a strong storm!

March is known for its winds and wild temperature swings. Much cooler and more seasonable weather will return starting Tuesday. We could even see some wet snow flakes on Wednesday!

Spring fans remember that this weekend is when we Spring forward our clocks.

Granted it’s been chilly and windy for the past several days. All of that is about to change as we enter into an extended period of warm, above normal temperatures and little to no rain!

So if you have been putting off outdoor chores, starting Thursday is the time to get them done!

I hope everyone got outside yesterday and enjoyed the crazy unseasonably warm weather yesterday. I took advantage and rode 20 miles on my bicycle.

When we get unusual weather in the summer or winter the first thought that comes to my mind is we’re going to pay for this somehow. Don’t worry, winter is not over, In fact, there are continued signs of the pattern change back to reality will take place late week into the weekend.

So enjoy it while it lasts. Today is still warm but windy. This time next week we will be back to seasonable temperatures with temperatures in the 30’s.

This afternoon with some sunshine and thankfully no more strong winds itself makes it feel much more comfortable outside

And the trend will continue. Friday will feature high temperatures in the upper 40’s to near 50. Saturday near 60! The downside is there will be more clouds than sun, but warmth is warmth. If it’s not going to snow, let us all be comfortable at least and enjoy some outdoor activities.

Signs continue to suggest the pattern change will start the last week of the month. As of right now nothing overly cold, just more seasonal for starters.

Radar showing another area of rain to move into western New Jersey

Radar showing another area of rain to move into western New Jersey

Just about 1″ of rain has fallen in Stewartsville so far today. As seen in the radar image above another area of rain is about to move into western New Jersey. This should be somewhat lighter than what we received before.

Look to the far left on that map and you see pink and blue representing mixed precipitation and snow. Yes that’s right while it’s in the low 60’s here, it’s snowing in the far NW part of PA.

NWS Ice Forecast for Saturday AM

NWS Ice Forecast for Saturday AM

Th cold air should arrive in western New Jersey very fast between 1 am and 5 am tomorrow morning. If it’s still raining we could see that change over to some sleet or freezing rain. As such the NWS has issued a winter weather advisory for Warren county and further N&W. The threat should be over by mid morning tomorrow then sharply colder temperatures over the weekend into next week.

Next change of some wintry weather will be on Tuesday and Wednesday. More on that as it approaches.

I expect western New Jersey to receive anywhere from 1/2″ to 1″ of rain.

Then just in time for Christmas Eve, warm temperatures!

If I don’t get a chance to post again until after Christmas I want to wish all readers a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Thank you for reading my thought on weather for our area.

Even though it doesn’t feel like it in western New Jersey (or the entire east coast for that matter), today marks the beginning of winter. The weather this week will be anything but winter-like. Record high temperatures appear to be in the forecast for Christmas Eve. From this point on we will (slowly at first) start having more sunlight.

7day

We will see more clouds this week and rain Tuesday morning. Rain chances should decrease as Christmas Eve approaches.

It took most of the day but the warm front finally made it past our area. As of right now western New Jersey temperatures is in the upper 50’s to around 60.

A band of heavy rain with some thunder and lightning is heading east. As seen above, it’s currently near Harrisburg. Be on the lookout this evening for an initial heavier period of rain and possible a rumble of thunder then periods of rain the remainderĀ of the night.

The cold front will bring us back to what we’re used to which is below normal temperatures. We might even see some flurried Friday night into Saturday. Saturday may stay in the 30’s for high temperature. Keep in mind we should now be in the low 50’s for high temperatures… But it looks like we will have some 50’s for highs next week.
