Slight risk of severe weather Monday

An active weather day is on the way for Monday courtesy of the very mild weather we are experiencing. All the warm weather is going to lead to the potential for some severe weather as a cold front approaches the area this evening. The biggest threat will be strong gusty winds.

A line of showers with a few embedded thunderstorms is expected to cross the area late this afternoon into this evening.

Wind advisory later today

Speaking of strong winds, a wind advisory will be in effect this afternoon into this evening. Look for windy SW winds this afternoon that could gust up to 50 mph. When the front goes through this evening, winds will shift into the NW and continue to gust to 50 mph. Look for even high wind gusts if you receive a strong storm!

March is known for its winds and wild temperature swings. Much cooler and more seasonable weather will return starting Tuesday. We could even see some wet snow flakes on Wednesday!

Spring fans remember that this weekend is when we Spring forward our clocks.

We’ll finish our work week with a very active weather day today. Overnight rains amounted to about 1/4″ in the western New Jersey area. More rain is on the way today.

There will also be plenty of wind. Look for the wind to be in two rounds. The first round will have southwesterly winds this morning. Then once the cold front passes, the winds will switch around to the west and northwest. That will be round two this afternoon. It could be some gusts to 45 mph.

With a strong cold front in our area, we have the potential for some thunderstorms believe it or not. Most of the stronger ones should stay to our south but a few severe thunderstorm warnings have already been posted to our SW and the cells are not weakening yet.
