The early morning fog has lifted but the humidity remains. Look for warmer temperatures today with high temperatures near 90.

As is the case when we have warm temperatures and plenty of humidity, there is a chance of spotty afternoon showers and thundershowers. The severe risk should be minimal.

The Saturday morning satellite shows a mix of clouds and sun. Let’s root for the clouds if you dislike hot temperatures as they will help keep down the temperature a little bit

In looking at Sunday and beyond, we turn up the heat and humidity through Monday. Tuesday and Tuesday evening will be our next chance of widespread showers and thundershowers with our next cold front. That will hopefully cross out area on/before Wednesday and pave the way for more comfortable humidity and near seasonable high temperatures for the rest of the week. Fingers crossed!

Hazy, Hot and Humid weather of Summer 2017 continues. Remember these days in the dead cold of winter 😉

Marginal risk of severe weather in western New Jersey on Thursday

Marginal risk of severe weather in western New Jersey on Thursday

As can be seen in the map above by the Storm Prediction Center, the best chances of severe weather will be to our north and west. As far as timing the best chances are this evening into the night. Some could linger into Friday morning.

The official definition of a heat wave in our park of the country is three consecutive days of high temperatures of 90 or above. We haven’t hit that yet in Stewartsville but we’ve been oh so close:

15th: 85
16th: 86
17th: 89
18th: 89
19th: 92
20th: 87+

Today, the 20th still isn’t over and I expect us to hit 90 or above so we will be 2/3rds of the way there. If we were to slightly modify the definition to be 89 or above we would already be there. Change it a few more degrees to 85+ and it’s a slam dunk.

Hottest day of the summer so far today in western New Jersey

Hottest day of the summer so far today in western New Jersey

I think its safe to say that today will be the hottest day of the warm season so far. Temperatures combined with humidity levels will make it feel miserable and borderline dangerous and unhealthy in some locations.

SPC has placed all of western New Jersey in a slight risk of severe weather today

With warm and humid weather comes the chance of sever weather. Look for the potential for strong storms later on today, tonight and even tomorrow.

Now that Hermine is sorta, kinda out of here, let’s talk about the July like heat in September. And its also very dry in not only western New Jersey but a large portion of the area as seen in the map above.

Unfortunately it looks to continue in the near term. The 8-14 day outlook has continued below normal precipitation for our area.

We will hopefully see some much needed showers and thundershowers later Saturday into Sunday morning but I’m sure those areas that do receive something it will be less than 1/2″

Speaking of heat we do have plenty of that. Upper 80’s are common in western New Jersey today. Look for more of the same tomorrow with even a few more degrees hotter and, wait for it, more humidity! Yay! Not.

Folks in western New Jersey were treated to a light show last evening from the approaching thunderstorms that slowly moved into the area from eastern PA. They took there time but did arrive and gave part of the area over 1″ of rain. Stewartsville received 1.10″ of new needed rainfall. Parts of eastern PA receive 3″ of rain while other areas of western NJ didn’t receive quite as much.

Summertime heat and humidity are here this week. Tuesday-Thursday will be the hottest weather so far with summer with highs in the mid 90’s we humidity to boot. There could be some scattered thunderstorms around today with a greater chance Thursday as another front approaches.
