A light snowfall is in the forecast for Tuesday for western New Jersey. More snow will fall to our south. At this time I’m expecting 1-3″ for western New Jersey. I had the “pleasure” of driving through this storm early today in Ohio. It was more intense than I thought it would be. Within 1 10 minute drive the left lane was covered and visibility greatly reduced. One hour later the snow had let up considerable so it wasn’t a big event – just enough to slow things down a little
Well we are past Groundhog Day. Either way you look at it, winter is half over. The PA rodent thinks we will have an early spring. Hopefully he’s right!
Today we will see periods of rain with a high near 60. Today will also be WINDY with some gust reaching 35-40 mph. Don’t be surprised if you hear a rumble of thunder later in the day. We are expecting 1/2″ to 1″ of rain. The rain should do a number on the 5″ of remaining snow in western New Jersey. It will also add to flooding concerns. Right now as long as we get under 1.5″ of rain we should be OK. Some local streams and creeks will rise but the big rivers look to be OK.
Speaking of snow cover, the beautiful day yesterday resulted in a nice looking satellite photo of the snow cover in our area. It amazes me how in early February there is no snow on the ground in upstate NY north of NYC and in northern PA!
But will the melting snow be replenished soon? Computer models are starting to indicate that early next week will be active. The warm weather of today will be replaced with more seasonable weather along with a favorable jet stream for Western New Jersey.
I will try and keep you updated but I will be quite busy the rest of the week into early next week.
We still have 7-8″ of snow in southern section of western New Jersey. the warm weather of the last few days has allowed some of it to melt slowly chich is what we want. But Wednesday will bring about 1″ of rain to western New Jersey.
The NWS has issued a flood watch for southern portions of western New Jersey. Make sure storm drains a leaders from gutters are cleared so rain has someplace to go instead of your basement! The flood watch could be extended further north.

Many areas in western New Jersey are now nearing white-out conditions. These heavy bands of snow will continue for the next several hours. This is the height of the storm from a heavy snowfall point of view. There was also a very heavy snow fall rate in the early morning hours that most of us slept through.
The NWS has upgraded their snow totals to 24-30.” Considering we are past the half way point on the low end this is possible!
The National Weather Service has extended the Blizzard Warning to WARREN-MORRIS-BERKS-LEHIGH-NORTHAMPTON
They are forecasting 22-30″! It could happen!!
As of 10 am in Stewartsville: 12.5″

Stewartsville, NJ received 8.1″ of new snow so far from the blizzard. I will forward more storm reports as I see them. Snow started around 8 pm last evening and continued at various rates overnight. It was very heavy in the early morning hours.
Right now there is what we call a “dry slot” over western New Jersey. This is seen as the lighter precipitation on the radar above. This is something that is very hard to predict. If this remains over western New Jersey for an extended period of time, snow totals will have to be lowered.
As of right now I’m maintaining the forecast of 12-18″ of total snow.
Winds have been gusting to near 30 mph so far this Saturday morning. Look for wind gust to continue and even get stronger.
