SPC severe weather outlook for Wednesday

I’ve mentioned in previous posts that we will be seeing more humidity and rain this week. So far it has held off. There were some sprinkles yesterday with some heavier rain in isolated sports to out south.

Wednesday looks to increase the chances of more rain and humidity. In the map above, the SPC has place EPA and extreme western New Jersey in a slight risk for severe weather. Some of the computer models are suggesting a line of thunderstorms tomorrow evening around 9 pm or so. We’ll keep an eye on these storms tomorrow.

Excessive rain outlook for Wednesday

As seen in the above map, there is a slight chance of rainfall reaching flash flood guidance Wednesday in central PA – exactly the place that doesn’t need more rain!

Excessive rain outlook for Thursday

Unfortunately it doesn’t get any better on Thursday. As seen in the map above that area shifts closer and even touches western New Jersey

1-5 day rain total

1-3 day rain total

As seen in the above maps, we have the potential to receive 1 to perhaps 3″ of rain in the next several days. We can thank the moist pattern we are once again in bringing humid air from the tropics right into out own backyeards

SPC severe weather outlook for Friday

First off the good news is the rain has let up, for now. Stewartsville in western New Jersey has received just under 4″ of rain this week. Of course this pales in comparison to central PA which received in some sports 11″ of rain and has severe flooding going on still.

Today will feature most areas being dry but a scattered shower can’t be ruled out. A cold front will approach the area tomorrow afternoon. This could result in some thunderstorms Friday afternoon. As a result the SPC has placed all of western New Jersey in a slight risk of severe weather tomorrow afternoon. The greatest threat appears to be 3 pm on.

WPC rain forecast for next Tue thru Thu

After that the weekend actually looks good and mostly rain free! But don’t put away the umbrella just yet. The weather will remain warm and humid and rain looks to return to our area next week. The above map is a forecast for Tuesday morning into Thursday morning next week. Unfortunately one of the bulls-eye is in PA where they have flooding going on now. For their sake let’s hope this doesn’t verify or moves to a different area.

Stewartsville rain this month

Stewartsville received 1.47″ of new rain as of 7 am this morning. Nearly 1″ of that was received yesterday morning from after 7 am until 8:30 am!

As you can see in the above chart, we’ve been getting a lot of rain recently. This is in contrast to how dry it was just 10 days ago and beyond. Be careful what you ask for!

Today, Tuesday we should see a little less in overall rain but don’t put the galoshes away just yet. Wednesday the systems looks to shift back to the east and give us more rain. Then hopefully Thursday it will relax again and then hopefully the entire system will nudge to the east on Friday via a front that may give us a half way descent weekend. But be forewarned: none of these days will be completely rain-free…

Beneficial rains overnight in Stewartsville

Stewartsville received a much appreciated 1.53″ of rain in the last 24 hours as of 7 am Sunday morning. One of pool toys was found across the yard do to some gusty winds. A rare small tree branch was also noted on the front lawn. Thankfully I hardly ever see any tree damage in my neighborhood.

Rainfall totals for Sunday since midnight

How much fell in your neighborhood? Here are northern New Jersey totals since midnight.

Expect the humid weather to continue all week. Along with the humidity will be scattered showers and thundershowers at almost anytime. But no one day looks to be a washout.

Sunny Friday

Get out and enjoy the weather today if you can. Today looks to be the last completely sunny, low humidity and warm day for perhaps a week!

Any sun Saturday will quickly fade with increasing clouds and a chance of showers in the afternoon. Most of the rain on Saturday will hold off until the evening and night time hours. The rain should taper off Sunday morning and there will be some breaks in the weather Sunday during the day. But then there is a chance of late day showers and thundershowers Sunday afternoon and evening. And the humidity will be back.

5 Day NWS Forecast

After that we will have humid weather with a chance of rain each day. These will not be entire wash outs everyday but the humidity will be there. Monday and Tuesday look to have a good chance of rain compared to the others. At least high temperatures will remain in the 80’s even though with the humidity it will feel higher.

SPC has most of northern NJ is slight risk

We need to keep an eye to the sky this afternoon for some stronger storms. The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of northern New Jersey in a slight risk of seeing some severe weather today. the greatest threats will be strong winds, small hail and heavy downpours.

Radar early Tuesday morning

As of early this morning there is some rain and thunderstorms in western PA and slowly heading in our direction via a NE movement.

Walking out the door this morning feels like you’re vacationing at a NJ shore house. The only problem is we are far inland! It is very warm and humid this morning. Relief is on the way via a cold front that will move through tonight. The result, after some story weather, will be delightful and comfortable Wednesday through Friday.

SPC has slight risk of severe weather to the north today

Today will be warmer and more humid than the last several days. This is due to a cold front approaching the area. There is a slight risk of some severe weather, mostly to the north as seen in the map above. Best chance and timing will be 3 pm – 9 pm and in the Poconos. All of the short term models have the showers deceasingĀ as it heads to the south and east. Which is unfortunate since we are very dry in some areas of western New Jersey.

10 Day forecast

The rest of the week it will be still warm but less humidity than today. Warmer and more humid weather expected for the weekend. Nothing too unusual – typically summer time weather!

TS Chris

Elsewhere in the South East, Tropical Storm Chris is expected to become a hurricane latter today. But fret not, it will move to the north and east and not impact our weather unless you are heading to the shore where rip current will be increasing.

NWS 5 day forecast

The heatwave is over and the reward is at hand. We will not only have a wonder weekend of weather but by July standards, it might even be a touch cool!

Low temperatures Saturday morning

Lows this morning were in the mid 50’s with some areas in the low 50’s! Hard to come by in July!

Today we have wonderful sunshine with a high near 80. That means most of the day temperatures will be in the mid to upper 70’s with low low humidity.

Sunday is a repeat of today just a little warmer with highs in the low to mid 80’s.

Looking ahead some heat and humidity returns by Tuesday of next week but it should not be as intense as the last heat wave nor last as long. More typical summer time heat with highs near 90.

Enjoy!

No this is not a reprise of Les Miserable – just one more day of the very hot and humid weather for western New Jersey. We then cool off about 10 degrees with a very comfortable weekend ahead with lower humidity.
