NWS snow forecast

Welcome to February! After another frigid night, temperatures will rebound a little today. Stewartsville went down to -2, a whole degree warmer than the night before. But with no wind, at least it didn’t feel as terrible.

The leading edge of the warmer air is bringing a weak disturbance to our south. The clouds that increased overnight actually helped keep our temperature from falling even lower. Usually with clear skies, calm wind and snow on the ground, air temperatures can drop quite low.

So don’t be surprised if you see some flurries today, especially in southern portions of western New Jersey, or if you are traveling south today. As you can see in the forecast snow map above, not much will be falling, even to our south.

Radar Friday morning showing very light snow over southern New Jersey

Today we should see high temperatures in the 20’s. That’s a whole 10 degrees warmer than Thursday. Saturday we can tack on another 10 degrees and have high temperatures in the 30’s, which is seasonable for this time of year. We keep the trend going on Sunday with highs in the 40’s.

Even warmer next week but with that will be the chance for some rain, especially later in the week

Radar 20161213 16:00

I posted a wide shot of the current radar (16:00 Tuesday) to show the light snow. It is setting up in a NE to SW line. Most of this light snow should stay to northern and western areas. The whole line will slowly move to the east as the evening progresses. I still expect this to be just a dusting for our area. Areas further to the north and west could see a coating to 1″ of snow towards the Poconos.

Light snow approaching from the SW

Light snow approaching from the SW

If you have any outdoor chores to do today is the day. There is some very light snow or flurries approaching from the SW. Look for them to arrive late afternoon into the early evening. It shouldn’t amount to too much but some areas may receive a dusting.

Wednesday will be a transition day as the next front will move through later in the day and into the evening ushering in the coldest air of the season. More details on that tomorrow…

radar20160112-1523

First round of light snow is nearing the end in western New Jersey. There will be a lull in the activity as you can see in the radar above. The next area will be more likely to be snow squalls as this will be accompanied by the cold front.

Radar20160112-1404

Look for these flurries and snow showers to become more frequent as the afternoon wears on. Unfortunately the rush home might be the peak. These caused numerous accidents west of here in Indiana earlier today.

Radar20151124-0840

Some snow flurries are moving through mostly northern sections of western New Jersey this chilly Tuesday morning. These should pass through in the next 2 hours or so.

7day

After that we should see a gradual clearing of the skies. Another cold night tonight then we start a warm up that will delight black Friday shoppers! Next chance of rain is Saturday morning.

If I don’t have a chance to post this before Thursday I’d like to wish all blog readers a wonderful Thanksgiving!
