Today will be the last day of the heat and humidity. There could be some late evening showers and perhaps even a thundershower but these should remain non-severe. The map above from the SPC shows our entire area only in a marginal risk for severe weather.

After that there will be slow improvement tomorrow, Friday. Northern sections will see the results and sunshine first as the front slowly shifts to the south. But it will be cooler with less humidity.

Then a September preview is in store for the weekend and beyond. How about high temperature in the upper 70’s and overnight lows in the 50’s?!

13. August 2019 · Comments Off on Severe Weather Threat For Today Shifts Way South · Categories: thunderstorms, weather discussion

Severe weather threat for today has shifted very far to our south. This doesn’t mean we won’t see a thunderstorm or two. It means that the best dynamics to produce severe weather in western New Jersey are no longer forecast to be in our area.

As a result the Flash Flood Watch has been removed for all of western New Jersey. Bucks county in PA is the closest county that still has the Flash Flood Watch. We still have the potential for 1/2″ of rain today and tonight.

One things that has not shifted lower is the humidity. One step outside this morning will remind you it’s still summer. After today’s weather we will see high temperatures in the mid to upper 80’s with a near daily chance of a scattered afternoon summer thundershower. The average high temperature is now 83 so we will be mostly above average this week.

Another pleasant air mass arrived yesterday and is giving us a break in the heat and especially the humidity, Overnight low temperatures this morning were in the comfortable upper 50’s.

Don’t get too used to it – it is July afterall! The humidity will return tomorrow along with temperatures in the upper 80’s. There will also be a near daily chance of summertime typical shower and thundershowers.

Warmer weather and humidity will return next week after a great weekend weather wise. Look for typical scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms in some spots. These should not be widespread and more scattered in nature. Tuesday looks more favorable than Monday.

Enjoy the first full weekend of Summer 2019!

Welcome to June 2019. The above map looks more ominous than it really will be. We should see a mix of sun and clouds most of the day with high temperatures in the mid 80’s.

A weak area of low pressure will be moving by to our north. Anytime after 9 pm today we could see a passing shower or thundershower. This shouldn’t be severe but always keep an eye to the sky.

Tomorrow is a different story. Most of the day should feature a mix of sun and clouds with a high near 80. A cold front will be approaching western New Jersey. This along with warm temperatures has the potential to give us some severe weather once again. the SPC has placed our entire area in a slight risk. The best chance for these will be later in the afternoon and early evening.

Once the cold front pushed through it will give us some beautiful but COOL weather on Monday and Tuesday. The map above shows that our high temperatures on Monday will not get out of the 60’s and be breezy. Monday night we could see low temperatures dip into the 40’s. So the A/C will get a rest for a few days.

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. This is an extremely busy time of year for my photography business. Last night there was some nice boomers. It wasn’t constant enough to keep you awake but some were close! About 1/2″ was recorded in Stewartsville.

Today will see some isolated showers, especially later today and this evening. Skies should remain mostly cloudy.

Late tonight into Sunday morning another area of rain will move into our area. This looks to deposit another 1/2 – 1″ of rain to western New Jersey. Most of the heavy rain should remain to our south.

We look to dry out a little next week but not completely. And the temperature roller coaster looks to continue. Monday thru Wednesday look on the mild side then back to cool and damp to end the week.

26. April 2019 · Comments Off on It’s Friday So More Rain · Categories: weather discussion · Tags: ,
SPC has SW parts of the area in marginal risk of severe weather

Our Friday trend hasn’t been too great for the last 2 months. Measurable rain on 9 of them. Today will continue the streak.

There have already been a few rumbles of thunder this morning. Look for this to continue on an off today. The strongest storms looks to occur in the 3 – 6 pm timeframe and could cause havoc with the evening commute.

Our weather will clear out for Saturday but it will be much cooler and windy. Look for highs near 60 with a stiff NW wind gusting into the 30’s at times.

We’ll continue our parade of fast moving weather systems with the next one arriving on Sunday. The cool weather will remain so there could even be some mixed precipitation in the northern area.

09. April 2019 · Comments Off on Showers Later Today Then More Seasonable Weather · Categories: spring, weather discussion · Tags: , ,

The beautiful June like weather of yesterday has been replaced with slightly cooler weather today. MOst western and southern areas will still get near 70 so today is not that bad.

A back door cold front came in from the east and cooled down areas to the far east. It will move back today allowing us to get into the upper 60’s to near 70 before a cold front move in from the west

When the cold front moves through it will be accompanied by showers and perhaps even a rumble of thunder. The SPC has placed us in the marginal risk which is quite low but a risk none the less.

We look to pick up anywhere from 1/10 to perhaps 1/4″ of rain today.

Coller more seasonable weather return for the balance of the work week but back into the 60’s on Friday afternoon.

29. March 2019 · Comments Off on Scattered Showers North; Warmer Weather On The Way · Categories: spring, weather discussion
Radar at 10:22 am Friday

Some light showers are in far northern New Jersey this morning. We should remain mostly cloudy on Friday with some scattered showers around but high temperatures should be in the low 60’s

The weather map above shows the shower chance is mostly to the north with less to the south on Friday

The weather map above for Saturday is a little misleading. There could be some early morning scattered showers and again later in the evening but most of the day will be dry but cloudy. The good news is even with the clouds we should have high temperatures around 70 degrees. If the sun could manage to peek out for a bit we could even see temperatures go higher than this.

Sunday morning a cold front approaches the area and give most of western New Jersey show rain that should amount to 1/4 – 1/2″. Conditions should improve in the afternoon but temperatures will be much cooler in the mid 50’s with a breeze becoming more noticable. Temperatures will fall into the 40’s by sunset.

Looking ahead to next week we remain cool and below normal Monday and Tuesday but back to normal on Wednesday and beyond.

We need to keep an eye on the potential for a coastal storm in the Tuesday-Wednesday timeframe. It’s unsure right now how close to the coast the storm will impact. Right now it looks to be mostly coastal locations and to the east.

March is know for its wide swings in weather. This weekend will be no exception. Today will feature plenty of strong sunshine along with a biting and gusty northwest wind. The wind will make our high temperature of near 50 today feel more like the 30’s.

The winds will die down tonight and give us a chilly start to Sunday. High temperatures on Sunday will be in the upper 50’s to perhaps near 60 in some southern locations. Skies will start out sunny but increasing clouds in the afternoon with our next weather system ahead.

We can see some showers later Sunday night into Monday. The new week will start off on a chilly note of below normal temperatures but will recover nicely the second half of the week. Next weekend looks wonderful temperature wise at this time with highs well up into the 60’s if not near 70! Perhaps Spring will really spring up next weekend!
