A coastal storm will be moving up north into our area tonight and very early Saturday morning. Western New Jersey should see around 1/3 – 1/2″ of rain. In far northern and western section, especially in the Poconos, there could be some sleet and wet snow mixed in at time overnight.

Sunshine will return on Saturday before a strong cold front moves through the area later on Sunday. This will give us another strong cold blast for the first half of next week. High temperatures on Monday will not get out of the 20’s. We’ll keep an eye on the potential for snow snow showers or squalls when the cold air arrives.

Accuweather

Good morning western New Jersey. We are waking up to mostly cloudy and cold this Tuesday morning. Today will feature two minor rounds of snow today. The first will be primarily flurries that will be around mid day. There could be a brief break then another round later in the afternoon into the evening. The second round could be more in the snow shower or even a snow squall as the arctic front moves through. Both of these could leave a coating in some areas to a 1/2″ or 1″ in others. Higher amounts will be to the north and west.

20160111-WxGraph

Wanted to share the above weather graph from my home weather station in Stewartsville, NJ. Notice the impressive and steady temperature drop from early afternoon which is constant to right now! You can clearly see from the temperature (top) and the pressure (bottom) when the cold front came through. Of course many people in western New Jersey could also see and hear when the cold front came through yesterday! Not only were there impressive clouds and heavy rain squalls but thunder and lightning in some spots too! Quite impressive for January!

7day

A reinforcement of cold air is going to arrive on Tuesday courtesy of a fast moving storm system called a “clipper.” We will see flurries and even some snow showers in western New Jersey tomorrow into tomorrow night. It’s not out of the question that some locations could receive a dusting of snow by Wednesday morning. This is more likely to the north and west but could happen anywhere!

There will be a slight warm up by end of week followed by another storm late weekend into next week then more cold air.

Rainy Sunday morning across western New Jersey this Sunday morning. Good news is it’s warm outside and the steady rain is already over. But there will be showers on and off for the next several hours. Most areas have received about 1″ of rain – some areas more. Stewartsville so far received 0.89″ of rain.

7day

Colder air arrives for the work week as has been advertised before. Daytime highs will be in the 30’s. A fast moving clipper system will visit western New Jersey Tuesday afternoon and evening that will not only usher in another arctic cold front but some light snow. Look for a possible dusting in some areas. More on that as we get closer.

As we look long range there could be a slight warm up by end of next week but a storm is possible around next weekend and even another one after that. Remember: it’s is mid January!

Rain will be moving into western New Jersey after midnight tonight and last to around mid-day Sunday. Winds will pick up and rain could be heavy at times. Winds will remain brisk on Sunday after the rain ends. Temperatures will start to drop and will reach the 30’s by Monday morning. Temperatures should stay in the 30’s during the day for all of next week.

Another arctic front will move through western New Jersey on Tuesday that will give us a period of light snow that may whiten the ground in some areas! More on that as it gets closer.

For now enjoy the near record warmth again on Sunday but keep the winter coats handy!

Clouds have increased over most of western New Jersey this Friday morning. They should remain with us today. There will be two chances of rain this weekend. The first will be late tonight into the early morning hours of Saturday. This shouldn’t amount to too much. The second, as show above, will have more rain and wind with it. It should arrive late Saturday night and last into early Sunday morning.

We should see about 1″ of rain in western New Jersey area. It should be breezy if not windy too with the storm. So if you still have you holiday light up, either take them down while its still dry and somewhat mild (that’s my plan for today) or make sure they are secure.

Don’t get to used to the warmer weather that we will experience in western New Jersey today into the weekend. Colder and windy weather will be usher behind the storm on Sunday resulting in temperatures struggling to get above freezing the first half of next week. It is mid January after all…

Another cold night in western New Jersey. The cold temperatures were the result of clear skies and calm winds overnight that allowed temperatures to drop near the dew point in spots. With plenty of sunshine today we should have afternoon high temperatures in the mid to upper 30’s.

7day

After that the milder trend continues into the weekend. We should see high temperatures in the low 40’s on Thursday and Friday. There looks to be two chances of rain into the weekend. The first will be late Friday night into Saturday morning. Then again late Saturday night into Sunday morning. Due to the warmer weather this will be rain in our area.

Looking ahead colder weather looks to return next week. This should not be a surprise since it’s January!

Baby it’s cold outside! Map above courtesy of NJweather.org. Tuesday morning low temperatures in western New Jersey are in the single digits. Today will feature plenty of sunshine *and* a little less wind. That should make it slightly more bearable but it will still be cold. A little more relief comes Wednesday.

7day

Thursday is even warmer and back to above normal with high in the 40’s into the weekend.

Coldest-Air-of-the-Season-20160104

If you stepped outside this morning in western New Jersey you know its cold outside! This is not unusual for early January – but it is unusual for us and the warmer than normal winter we had up to this point. Today and Tuesday will be the coldest part. There will be a stiff northerly breeze and could even be some snow flurries or light snow showers at times.

7day

We will begin to recover a little on Wednesday with highs back into the seasonable 30’s. Next chance of precipitation looks to be late Friday into the weekend. Right now it looks to be mostly rain but could start off and/or end as snow.

If you don’t mind the cold, tonight might be a good night to look at the meteor shower!
