Since this morning hurricane Florence has undergone significant strengthening. Florence has gone from a category 2 early this morning to currently a cat 4. This highest rating for hurricanes is cat 5.
The above graphic shows the five day forecast for the hurricane. As you can see the storm will stay to the south of western New Jersey. Once the storm makes landfall, or comes close the Carolina coast, steering winds will become weak so the future path of the storm is not carved in stone.
The above map shows the probabilities of an area seeing tropical storm winds. As you can see northern NJ does not have a color and southern NJ is dark green – with only a 5-10 % chance. This is until Saturday morning
The above map show the *earliest* reasonable arrival time of tropical storm force winds if they occur. Again northern NJ is not in the cone and southern NJ is Thursday afternoon. But keep in mind the other map that we only have a small chance of seeing winds this strong.
Even though the storm will be to our south, the component that is steering the storm to our south may also give us some winds. The combination of strong high pressure north of the storm and the hurricane will setup a pressure gradient, even quite a distance away from the storm. Where this sets up needs to be monitored.
Now looking only at hurricane force wind speeds, the probabilities are outlined in the above map.
The right front side of a storm typically sees not only the strongest winds but also a large amount of rain. In this case the winds will be blowing up against the Appalachian mountains. This will “wring out” even more rain from the hurricane. The above map shows the potential rainfall for days 4 and 5 from now.
Here is the day 6 and 7 forecast for rainfall. Needless to say a huge amount of inland flooding may occur over parts of North Carolina and the Virginia’s
we will continue to monitor the storm and report on it as we are able.
Stewartsville received nearly 1″ of rain in the past 24 hours. I could hear the rain falling at times last night while sleeping.
Unfortunately more of the same is in store this week. While it won’t be raining the whole entire time, we will be receiving more rain.
If you’re not a fan of the cool weather we received over the weekend, things will be warming up. The unseasonably cool 50’s we felt on Sunday will be replaced with 60’s today. Upper 70’s to near 80 will be in store Tuesday and beyond.
As forecast, hurricane Florence regained hurricane status overnight and strengthened. The hurricane will be moving over very favorable conditions today and tomorrow and there’s little reason to think it will not become a major hurricane.
the National Hurricane Center (NHC) shows its 5 day forecast above. Don’t just focus on the center of the storm. The right side of where Florence hits will receive lots of rain, inland too.
Any remnants of Florence should’t reach our area until, wait for it, the weekend.
The remnants of Gordon will be moving into our area later tonight and will pose a flood watch for our area.
..FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY EVENING…
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a
* Flood Watch for portions of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, including the following areas, in New Jersey, Hunterdon, Sussex, Warren,
* From late tonight through Monday evening
* The remnant low of Gordon will pass to the north and west of the region late this weekend and early in the new week. With abundant moisture out ahead of it, a prolonged period of moderate to heavy rain will fall starting late tonight and continuing into Monday. 1 to 3 inches of rain is expected throughout the watch area, but there is the potential for training of thunderstorms that could result in 5 inches or more of rain. The grounds in southeast Pennsylvania and most of New Jersey are quite saturated, so it will not take much for flooding to occur.
* Excessive rainfall will lead to rapidly rising water and flooding, particularly in urban areas and along small creeks and streams. There is also the potential for flash flooding during this time.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
Before the cooler more seasonable weather gets here we have one more day of hot humid weather. The Heat Advisory continues today along with the chance of some thundershowers later this afternoon and evening.
With the arrival of the cooler temperatures there could be some showers from time to time.
We continue to watch the tropics. Warm and humid weather does look to make a return middle of next week but not as bad as what we are experiencing now.
While today will be not as hot and humid as the last few days I certainly won’t call it comfortable. Look for high temperatures in the mid to upper 80’s with humidity as well.
Tomorrow will feature cooler temperatures with highs in the 70’s but there will be more clouds than sun. We will also introduce the chance of showers and perhaps even a thundershowers starting Thursday overnight. This will continue into Saturday
Sunday and Monday is more of the same except the heat starts to return with highs back in the 80’s.
Looking longer range next week looks to be warm and humid again with high temperatures in the upper 80’s to near 90 with humidity and showers and thundershowers possible. Someone needs to tell mother nature to bring cooler weather when Labor Day arrives! 🙂
Another 1.50″ plus has fallen overnight in the western New Jersey area – certainly nothing out of the ordinary of recent times. With the ground still being saturated, water puddles up quickly and floods swollen streams and rivers.
Today a cold front will push through the area and usher in cooler and dryer weather. This could be accompanied by a few scattered showers and perhaps even a thundershower.
Then get ready to crack open the windows at night with several nights low temperatures in the 50’s!
Fear not if your a summer lover. Warm and humid weather will start to return on Sunday and continue into the new week. This could continue into Labor Day weekend and perhaps beyond…
Some showers and thundershowers are now arriving from the north and west. Be on the lookout for the next several hours. If the sky turns stormy seek shelter!
Reminder: flash flood watch in effect until later tonight

The goal of this new editor is to make adding rich content to WordPress simple and enjoyable. This whole post is composed of pieces of content—somewhat similar to LEGO bricks—that you can move around and interact with. Move your cursor around and you’ll notice the different blocks light up with outlines and arrows. Press the arrows to reposition blocks quickly, without fearing about losing things in the process of copying and pasting.
What you are reading now is a text block the most basic block of all. The text block has its own controls to be moved freely around the post…
… like this one, which is right aligned.
Headings are separate blocks as well, which helps with the outline and organization of your content.
A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
Handling images and media with the utmost care is a primary focus of the new editor. Hopefully, you’ll find aspects of adding captions or going full-width with your pictures much easier and robust than before.
Try selecting and removing or editing the caption, now you don’t have to be careful about selecting the image or other text by mistake and ruining the presentation.
The Inserter Tool
Imagine everything that WordPress can do is available to you quickly and in the same place on the interface. No need to figure out HTML tags, classes, or remember complicated shortcode syntax. That’s the spirit behind the inserter—the (+) button you’ll see around the editor—which allows you to browse all available content blocks and add them into your post. Plugins and themes are able to register their own, opening up all sort of possibilities for rich editing and publishing.
Go give it a try, you may discover things WordPress can already add into your posts that you didn’t know about. Here’s a short list of what you can currently find there:
Text & Headings
Images & Videos
Galleries
Embeds, like YouTube, Tweets, or other WordPress posts.
Layout blocks, like Buttons, Hero Images, Separators, etc.
And Lists like this one of course 🙂
Visual Editing
A huge benefit of blocks is that you can edit them in place and manipulate your content directly. Instead of having fields for editing things like the source of a quote, or the text of a button, you can directly change the content. Try editing the following quote:
The editor will endeavor to create a new page and post building experience that makes writing rich posts effortless, and has “blocks” to make it easy what today might take shortcodes, custom HTML, or “mystery meat” embed discovery.
Matt Mullenweg, 2017
The information corresponding to the source of the quote is a separate text field, similar to captions under images, so the structure of the quote is protected even if you select, modify, or remove the source. It’s always easy to add it back.
Blocks can be anything you need. For instance, you may want to add a subdued quote as part of the composition of your text, or you may prefer to display a giant stylized one. All of these options are available in the inserter.
You can change the amount of columns in your galleries by dragging a slider in the block inspector in the sidebar.
Media Rich
If you combine the new wide and full-wide alignments with galleries, you can create a very media rich layout, very quickly:
Sure, the full-wide image can be pretty big. But sometimes the image is worth it.
The above is a gallery with just two images. It’s an easier way to create visually appealing layouts, without having to deal with floats. You can also easily convert the gallery back to individual images again, by using the block switcher.
Any block can opt into these alignments. The embed block has them also, and is responsive out of the box:
You can build any block you like, static or dynamic, decorative or plain. Here’s a pullquote block:

Stewartsville received 1.47″ of new rain as of 7 am this morning. Nearly 1″ of that was received yesterday morning from after 7 am until 8:30 am!
As you can see in the above chart, we’ve been getting a lot of rain recently. This is in contrast to how dry it was just 10 days ago and beyond. Be careful what you ask for!
Today, Tuesday we should see a little less in overall rain but don’t put the galoshes away just yet. Wednesday the systems looks to shift back to the east and give us more rain. Then hopefully Thursday it will relax again and then hopefully the entire system will nudge to the east on Friday via a front that may give us a half way descent weekend. But be forewarned: none of these days will be completely rain-free…
