Red Flag Warning Saturday April 11, 2020

Most areas had wind gust in the upper 30’s or low 40’s yesterday. Stewartsville recorded a gust to 40 mph.

The winds will let up a little today but it will still be breezy. The winds combined with relatively dry conditions will continue our Red Flag warning for today. Please do not light any fires today. The swirling winds can easily make them get out of control.

Regarding the freeze warning early this morning, Stewartsville only dropped to 35 but as you can see in the map above many northern sections went into the upper 20’s.

Saturday high temperatures

Tonight shouldn’t be nearly as cold as last night but still chilly. Saturday’s high temperatures will continue about 5 degrees below normal but warmer than yesterdays.

Easter Sunday high temperature forecast

Easter Sunday is the pick of the weekend. Not only should the winds be lighter, but we will have warmer temperatures into the mid and perhaps upper 60’s. The only downside, besides not able to physically go to church, is there will be more clouds than sun. This is in response to our next weather maker which will give us a pretty good soaking Sunday night into most of Monday.

Rain forecast for Monday

Most areas late Sunday night into Monday should pick up 1-1.5″ of new rain. Luckily as most trees and vegetation is tarting to come to life, most of this should be absorbed into the ground with minimal flood threat.

Minimal severe weather threat for Sunday into Monday

As the warmer air arrives along with the precipitation, there is a chance for or rumble or two of thunder Sunday night into Monday. As you can see in the map above this will be more pronounced further to our south and west.

Looking ahead to next week and beyond, unfortunately our cool weather looks to prevail. There may be a day or two or near to above normal temperatures as weather systems move into and through our area. But overall April’s second half is trending cooler. This is unfortunate as everyone wants to get outside to avoid cabin fever.

Severe weather threat for Thursday from SPC

Today is our transition day from nice Spring weather to windy and much cooler conditions. The Storms Prediction Center has placed our entire area in a slight risk for severe weather today. The greatest threat is from strong winds and heavy rain. While there could be some rumbles of thunder, that will not be as bad as the other morning. Look for a line of wind and rain to arrive around midday.

Wind advisory from Noon to 5 pm

A wind advisory is up for our entire area from noon Thursday until 5 pm.

Future wind gusts to 40 – 50 mph

Wind gusts today could be in the area of 40-50 mph! Make sure you secure small object, garbage cans, etc. There’s even the possibility of scattered power outages.

All of this will lead to much cooler weather tonight into Saturday with gusty winds continuing. Saturday will feature partly sunny skies with the winds letting up. Sunday will feature increasing clouds and warmer temperatures in the low to mid 60’s. The rain should hold off until Sunday night into Monday when we will receive another good soaking.

19. March 2020 · Comments Off on Marginal Threat For Severe Weather Friday · Categories: spring, thunderstorms

With the unusually warm temperatures, we will be experiencing on Friday will clash with a strong cold front moving in later in the day. These combined will give our entire area a marginal risk for some severe weather.

Bottom line: enjoy the warm weather tomorrow but keep an eye to the sky especially later in the day and evening.

Rainfall forecast Thursday night into Fri AM

Today, Wednesday will feature plenty of sunshine after a chilly start. Look for high temperatures today to be in the mid to upper 50’s. There will be an increase in clouds in the afternoon and evening. Look for rain to start from west to east just before midnight.

The heaviest rain looks to fall in the overnight hours and should be over by the morning rush. Showers look to continue in the morning and clouds will remain for a good portion of the day.

The Spring equinox is late Thursday evening so Friday will be the first full day of astronomical Spring!

Friday high-temperature forecast

Our gift of nearly an inch of rain on Thursday morning will be a very warm day on Friday. It doesn’t look to feature a lot of sunshine as a cold front approaches but it will be warm. These temperatures above are based on limited sunshine on Friday. If we get more I would not be surprised to see some location get closer to 80!

Unfortunately, this will not last into the weekend as cooler weather will move into western New Jersey.

Warmth spreads into our area

Today will be far and wide the pick of the week with plenty of sunshine and temperatures making a run for 70. the last time we were this warm was the past Halloween.

If there is anything weather wise that may hold back today is there will be a little breeze that will pick up as we warm up. But it will be a warm breeze! But it will also be a dry breeze and this will allow rapid spread of any fires that do form so today might not be the best day for any open burns. If you do have one take precautions.

We cool down slightly tomorrow but high temperatures will still be in the low 60’s. Showers return as well but not too much will register in the rain bucket.

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. This is an extremely busy time of year for my photography business. Last night there was some nice boomers. It wasn’t constant enough to keep you awake but some were close! About 1/2″ was recorded in Stewartsville.

Today will see some isolated showers, especially later today and this evening. Skies should remain mostly cloudy.

Late tonight into Sunday morning another area of rain will move into our area. This looks to deposit another 1/2 – 1″ of rain to western New Jersey. Most of the heavy rain should remain to our south.

We look to dry out a little next week but not completely. And the temperature roller coaster looks to continue. Monday thru Wednesday look on the mild side then back to cool and damp to end the week.

09. April 2019 · Comments Off on Showers Later Today Then More Seasonable Weather · Categories: spring, weather discussion · Tags: , ,

The beautiful June like weather of yesterday has been replaced with slightly cooler weather today. MOst western and southern areas will still get near 70 so today is not that bad.

A back door cold front came in from the east and cooled down areas to the far east. It will move back today allowing us to get into the upper 60’s to near 70 before a cold front move in from the west

When the cold front moves through it will be accompanied by showers and perhaps even a rumble of thunder. The SPC has placed us in the marginal risk which is quite low but a risk none the less.

We look to pick up anywhere from 1/10 to perhaps 1/4″ of rain today.

Coller more seasonable weather return for the balance of the work week but back into the 60’s on Friday afternoon.

Radar at 10:22 am Friday

Some light showers are in far northern New Jersey this morning. We should remain mostly cloudy on Friday with some scattered showers around but high temperatures should be in the low 60’s

The weather map above shows the shower chance is mostly to the north with less to the south on Friday

The weather map above for Saturday is a little misleading. There could be some early morning scattered showers and again later in the evening but most of the day will be dry but cloudy. The good news is even with the clouds we should have high temperatures around 70 degrees. If the sun could manage to peek out for a bit we could even see temperatures go higher than this.

Sunday morning a cold front approaches the area and give most of western New Jersey show rain that should amount to 1/4 – 1/2″. Conditions should improve in the afternoon but temperatures will be much cooler in the mid 50’s with a breeze becoming more noticable. Temperatures will fall into the 40’s by sunset.

Looking ahead to next week we remain cool and below normal Monday and Tuesday but back to normal on Wednesday and beyond.

We need to keep an eye on the potential for a coastal storm in the Tuesday-Wednesday timeframe. It’s unsure right now how close to the coast the storm will impact. Right now it looks to be mostly coastal locations and to the east.

March is know for its wide swings in weather. This weekend will be no exception. Today will feature plenty of strong sunshine along with a biting and gusty northwest wind. The wind will make our high temperature of near 50 today feel more like the 30’s.

The winds will die down tonight and give us a chilly start to Sunday. High temperatures on Sunday will be in the upper 50’s to perhaps near 60 in some southern locations. Skies will start out sunny but increasing clouds in the afternoon with our next weather system ahead.

We can see some showers later Sunday night into Monday. The new week will start off on a chilly note of below normal temperatures but will recover nicely the second half of the week. Next weekend looks wonderful temperature wise at this time with highs well up into the 60’s if not near 70! Perhaps Spring will really spring up next weekend!

Get out and enjoy today’s weather as tomorrow will be a rainy day. Rain could arrive as early morning hours on Thursday and be moderate to heavy at times

It now looks like we could get 1-1.5″ of rain on Thursday. Showers could linger into Friday morning then turning windy with scattered rain or snow showers Friday afternoon. Wind continues on Saturday but then Sunday turns into a nice day and the better half of the weekend.
