Radar shows rain moving out of our area

We received another 1/4″ of rain or so overnight. The rain is now pushing out of our area and brighter and sunny skies should return

temperatures may go up to the upper 40’s to low 50’s before a cold front pushes through our area that will bring colder temperatures back to our area. The winds will also pick up and become gusty at time. Colder and windy weather will last into Saturday.

Our next chance of wintry weather will happen late Sunday night into Monday morning. At this time it looks like another coating to perhaps 1″ of snow for our area.

Then on Tuesday another storm system will approach our area. This storm will have more moisture and will show us many different types of wintry precipitation. Right now it looks to start off as snow and perhaps accumulate a couple of inches. Then warmer air will move into our area and mix then changeover to sleet and perhaps eventually rain. More on this as we get closer to the event.

Still not feeling like spring!

NWS 5 day forecast

Everyone in western New Jersey woke up to some light snow falling. It’s only accumulating on colder surfaces and thankfully not the roads. This is a sight folks in western New Jersey have become too familiar with this Spring!

Ironically today will be one of the warmer days for a while. Today’s light snow is a result of a warm front moving through the area. Later this afternoon we should have high temperatures in the upper 50’s.

But don’t get too used to it. A cold front will come thru early Saturday morning which will bring cooler air for the weekend. Believe it or not this is a good thing. This push of colder air is going to steer another snow storm to our south. Only southern New Jersey and point south should see any significant accumulations from this next system. We could all see some light snow or rain showers, primarily in the morning. Remainder of the weekend will be on the cool side.

More cold air for Monday and Tuesday along with our next, dare I say last chance of snow or mixed precipitation for Tuesday. Then after that the pattern finally looks to relax and allow some warmer and more seasonable weather to arrive in our area by late week or next weekend!

5 day weather forecast

The March sun is very powerful and a lot of snow was melted yesterday! Look for that to continue but we may not have quite as much sun. IN fact there could be a shower or a snow shower at times this afternoon.

Tonight will be another chilly evening and Saturday should be a mostly sunny but cool day. Saturday night we may see another passing snow shower. Palm Sunday the sun returns but we remain on the cool side

Looking into next week we should start seeing 50 or better for high temperatures starting on Tuesday!

NWS 5 day forecast

Try as we might, Spring is no where near to be found. Strong gusty winds continue today, Friday with high temperatures only in the upper 30’s which is 10 degrees below normal.

Winds should die down tonight and over the weekend but early risers on Saturday morning will feel low to mid 20’s cold temperatures.

Dry conditions remain until Tuesday. Then we focus our attention on what could be the 4th coastal storm of the last couple of weeks. As of right now it could start as early as later on Tuesday and last, in some fashion or another, into Thursday morning. We’ll be keeping an eye on this and will have updates as we get closer.

5 day forecast for western New Jersey

5 day forecast for western New Jersey

Chilly Friday morning will lead to a nice afternoon with light winds out of the south with a high near or just above 40’s. This sets the stage for a very nice Saturday with high in the low to mid 50’s! Clouds will increase later in the day Saturday and some rain will move in and last into early Sunday morning. Look for no more than 1/4″ rain. Sunday the rain should end by mid morning and still see temperatures in the 50’s before some colder weather arrives on Monday.

The yellow on the 5 day forecast above is a flood watch that is still in effect for places along the Delaware river. There is a lot of river ice in the river further to the north near Shawnee that is clogging up the river and causing water levels to rise.

The next chance of precipitation will be late Monday into Tuesday morning. It looks to be a weakening system that will be transferring its energy to another storm off shore. We have seen this several times this winter. This could give us a period of light snow over night Monday into Tuesday morning. So the Tuesday morning commute will need to be monitored.

I have a busy weekend and may not be able to update again until Sunday evening at the earliest. Have a great weekend!

Above is a graphical display of snowfall reports received by the NWS for yesterday’s storm. See my previous post about more storm reports. Many locations received 6-8” with less up north.

Western New Jersey residents woke up to another very cold morning. Many temperatures were in the low single digits. Many school districts are on a delayed opening once again. And most side roads are snow covered but hopefully plowed by now.

I’m pleased to report we should now be in a quiet period with warming! Yes today will be cold (20 degrees below normal!) as will tonight but we should have mostly sunny skies well into next week with high temperatures in the 40’s starting on Sunday!

And don’t forget to “spring” your clocks forward Saturday night.

Western New Jersey did see some light snow yesterday but it didn’t amount to too much. Most places only received a dusting or a coating. Early risers this morning may have also seen some flurries as well as cold temperatures in the low teens.

image

Friday will feature clouds and sun and a few passing flurries with highs in the mid 20’s. Tonight and Sunday morning will be cold once again with lows in the single digits. Saturday will be mostly sunny with highs in the 20’s. Sunday will see light snow developing in the afternoon and into the evening and overnight. At this point this is looking very similar to the last storm we received where we started off as snow and some areas finished as sleet and freezing rain. So look for a small accumulating snow later on Sunday and Sunday night, possibly changing to a wintry mix and ending early Monday. It may actually warm up enough by Wednesday to give us rain. More details on all of this over the weekend.

Skies are already mostly cloudy this morning. Look for skies to remain mostly cloudy with high temperatures in the mid 40’s. A few rain showers may sneak in late in the day and early this evening. Look for a steadier rain to arrive mid to late evening and continue overnight.

The rain looks to arrive in two batches. The first will be this evening and overnight. Then there appears to be a break during the day (could be some drizzle and showers) with a steadier rain returning in the afternoon into the overnight.

Look for about 1” rain from this event. Sunday looks drier at this point. The next chance of precipitation will be around Tuesday. Could be a significant storm or either rain/snow. I’ll keep you posted!
