First and foremost Merry Christmas for all who celebrate! The weather in western New Jersey is certainly not very Christmas like with fog this morning and afternoon high temperatures to be in the mid 60’s!

7day

But we all knew the warm weather would have to come to an end sooner or later. Remember normal high temperatures for this time of year are in the upper 30’s!!

There will be some showers on and off from tonight into Sunday night. Monday morning looks rain free but then a storm system will be approaching our area Monday night into Tuesday. Enough cold air will start flowing into the area on Monday to give us high temperatures near normal. Monday night will feature a cold rain that will mix with sleet, especially in colder areas to the north and west and possibly mix with if not change to snow for a while. This all continues into Tuesday morning but warmer air will be arriving and should change us over to rain but mid day if not sooner. I don’t expect much if any in the way of accumulation at this point since the ground is still soo warm.

I’ll post updates on this as we approach. I just wanted to give a heads up wince there is a lot of family travel this time of year.

7 day weather forecast for western new jersey

colder weather ahead

Today should be the last of the nice and warm days for a while for western New Jersey. Even thought it felt closer to the season as you head out the door today, high temperatures will still be above normal in the low 50’s.

Another rain maker is on the way for Thursday. this system looks to bring more rain than the last. We should see around 1/3″ to 1/2″ of rain.

After the rain it turns colder. But nothing crazy for the second half of December. But it will feel very cold since we’re all used to the above normal temperatures! But don’t worry too much – the long rang outlook for next week has us back in the 50’s and possibly approaching 60 again. Hopefully Santa knows how to land without snow 😎

Today western New Jersey will see a gradual increase and thickening of clouds across the area. Temperatures will be cool but seasonable. Tonight if some of the rain comes in fast enough, some section further to the north and the west might actually be cold enough for some freezing rain or sleet at the onset of the storm. Please be mindful of this. I will try and post updates if it looks to be more widespread. Right now it looks like the exception instead of the rule – only in those areas to the N & W that usually get colder than surrounding areas.

Today will be a seasonable day for the end of November. On Saturday night a secondary cold front will pass through the area bringing coldest air of the new season for Sunday into early next week. Look for highs on Sunday thru Tuesday not getting out of the 40’s. There is a chance that some areas may see a sprinkle or some wet snow flakes late Saturday into Sunday morning but it shouldn’t be much.

Long range outlook for Thanksgiving has warmer more seasonable weather for Thanksgiving with high temperatures in the low 50’s.

A strong cold front will be crossing western New Jersey on Thursday. Rain from this system could start as early as late tonight or early Thursday morning. The bulk of the rain will be late morning into the afternoon. The worst of it should be over in the evening. Expect 1/2″ – 1″ of rain for the area. Some areas that receive downpours could receive more. As you can see from the graphic above, it will deposit a good amount of rain for the East coast.

Once this system passes we say goodbye to above normal temperatures for a while. Friday will be close to seasonable with highs in the low to mid 50’s. Saturday will be near 50. Then a below normal stretch starts on Sunday into next week with high temperatures only in the 40’s! It will feel cold but it is the second half of November after all.

Most of the leaves are off the trees now in western New Jersey. Today, Monday should be the pick of the week weather-wise. A great day to go outside and finish any last minute outdoor chores (like me). Look for mostly sunny and highs in the low to mid 60’s.

Thursday looks to be our rainy day this week and we could receive a good amount as shown on the map above. Right now it looks like afternoon into evening.

Cooler air arrives on Tuesday then increasing clouds on Wednesday for the system that will bring us rain on Thursday. Fair and cooler weather looks accurate for next weekends as of right now.

Look for temperatures to be around 60 degrees for a daytime high. Thursday will feature a cold front that will move through the area with some showers. Look for less rain than we received on Tuesday (Stewartsville received almost 1/2″ of rain).
