Hermine continued her westward track in the past day and looks to continue today. There are some scattered very light showers in New Jersey and it’s not out of the question to see a few light showers pop up today. There will be more clouds but sunshine will still be seen.

As previously advertised, we knew Hermine would still be impacting the region today. What impresses me most is IF this storm behaved as originally thought and didn’t go out as far east as it did, just image how much closer it would be today impacting our region!

Above is a satellite loop showing the proximity of the storm.

And now the heat builds. I already had to break down and turn my AC back on. Even thought it not all that humid yet, it will get so especially on Thursday. Look for high temperatures in the upper 80’s to low 90’s for the remainder of the week. I’m sure the back to school kids will really love it 🙁

Here’s the Monday late morning update on Hermine. The storm is *finally* retrograding back to the west. But it is too far east to have any *significant* impacts to us here in western New Jersey. We will see more thin high clouds today than yesterday. There may even be more of a breeze than yesterday too. Expect high temperatures on Labor Day to be in the low 80’s. Overall great holiday weather.

Except if you at the shore. The shore will have more clouds today and it will be windy. You shouldn’t go into the warm water more than knee deep due to the rip current potential. And there will be continued beach erosion and some flooding at times of high tide. But it will be a nice enough day to get out and relax and visit shore vendors and enjoy the last day of the extended weekend.

Hermine will take her time departing the area. In her wake will be a return to hot and humid weather. Just what we all wanted to see with school back in session. Expect high temperatures Tuesday-Friday in the upper 80’s the low 90’s on some days. We could start to see some scattered afternoon showers as early as Wednesday but the rain chances increase more as the week wears on. Keep in mind we are very dry and under drought conditions.

At the beginning of Hermine’s landfall she was going further north and west that forecast. Yesterday she decided to stay further east and south. Perhaps it was the strong high pressure to the north. Regardless the storm is further offshore than forecast.

As you can see above, we are not completely off the hook. It is forecast to come back towards the coast a little but this will not be as close as originally thought. We will have no rain from this in western New Jersey. Today will be a partly sunny beautiful day. The Jersey shore will continue to see high waves, beach erosion and tital flooding at times of high tide.

If Hermine does turn back towards the coast, conditions will not be felt until later today in Monday.

East Coast Tropical Update

East Coast Tropical Update

Tropical depression 8 continue to look like it will move northeast and not impact our area.

Today will feature warm temperatures and low humidity. That changes on Wednesday as a strong cold front approaches the area on Wednesday. Tomorrow should be warm and humid. But then we get another brief taste of autumn with a few comfortable and cool days. Unfortunately we look to only receive about 1/4″ or rain as the cold front does not look to be too wet. This is unfortunate since it hasn’t rained since last Sunday and western New Jersey has returned to dry conditions.

8-14 Temperature Outlook

After a nice comfortable start to the Labor Day weekend, above normal temperatures look to return into the first half of September. This trend looks to continue beyond this…

Today western New Jersey will see a gradual increase and thickening of clouds across the area. Temperatures will be cool but seasonable. Tonight if some of the rain comes in fast enough, some section further to the north and the west might actually be cold enough for some freezing rain or sleet at the onset of the storm. Please be mindful of this. I will try and post updates if it looks to be more widespread. Right now it looks like the exception instead of the rule – only in those areas to the N & W that usually get colder than surrounding areas.

From the above map we can see that most locations in western New Jersey received around 1″ of rain. Stewartsville received 1.18″ There were some slightly more reports further to the east.

Today will be a seasonable day for the end of November. On Saturday night a secondary cold front will pass through the area bringing coldest air of the new season for Sunday into early next week. Look for highs on Sunday thru Tuesday not getting out of the 40’s. There is a chance that some areas may see a sprinkle or some wet snow flakes late Saturday into Sunday morning but it shouldn’t be much.

Long range outlook for Thanksgiving has warmer more seasonable weather for Thanksgiving with high temperatures in the low 50’s.

A strong cold front will be crossing western New Jersey on Thursday. Rain from this system could start as early as late tonight or early Thursday morning. The bulk of the rain will be late morning into the afternoon. The worst of it should be over in the evening. Expect 1/2″ – 1″ of rain for the area. Some areas that receive downpours could receive more. As you can see from the graphic above, it will deposit a good amount of rain for the East coast.

Once this system passes we say goodbye to above normal temperatures for a while. Friday will be close to seasonable with highs in the low to mid 50’s. Saturday will be near 50. Then a below normal stretch starts on Sunday into next week with high temperatures only in the 40’s! It will feel cold but it is the second half of November after all.

Most of the leaves are off the trees now in western New Jersey. Today, Monday should be the pick of the week weather-wise. A great day to go outside and finish any last minute outdoor chores (like me). Look for mostly sunny and highs in the low to mid 60’s.

Thursday looks to be our rainy day this week and we could receive a good amount as shown on the map above. Right now it looks like afternoon into evening.

7day

Cooler air arrives on Tuesday then increasing clouds on Wednesday for the system that will bring us rain on Thursday. Fair and cooler weather looks accurate for next weekends as of right now.
