NWS snow forecast for later Wednesday

The large storm system that only gave us 2″ of snow yesterday continued to impact New England with lots of snow. The storm is now nearly stationary and rotating clouds and some snow. There is a chance this afternoon we could see some snow showers. Some of these may be so strong and accompanied by gusty winds they will be considered snow squalls. These could leave a coating of snow to perhaps even an inch or two. Most of the accumulation will be further to north.

Here is a special weather statement from the NWS:

513 AM EDT Wed Mar 14 2018

...Snow showers should make travel slippery at times over the higher elevations of eastern Pennsylvania and northwest New Jersey
later today...

Snow showers are forecast to become widespread across eastern Pennsylvania and northwest New Jersey during midday and this
afternoon. Snow will briefly accumulate on untreated roads over the higher elevations this afternoon, making for intermittent
stretches of slippery travel.

One to three inches of new snow is likely today over the Poconos with an inch or less scattered about the remainder of the area
where it does snow.

Snow could be briefly heavy with visibility limited to a quarter mile for a few minutes.

Westerly winds are forecast to become gusty 30 to 40 MPH during mid and late afternoon.

Be alert for rapidly changing weather and road conditions later today in association with developing snow showers.

Snow showers to impact western New Jersey this afternoon and early evening

Snow showers to impact western New Jersey this afternoon and early evening

Sussex-Warren-Morris-Monroe-
Including the cities of...Newton...Washington...Morristown...Stroudsburg
144 PM EST Fri Dec 30 2016

...Snow showers and possible snow squalls...

A band of snow showers with embedded snow squalls may extend from the Great Lakes into parts of the Pocono Region in Pennsylvania and parts of
northern New Jersey during the late afternoon and evening hours. The time period of concern is from about 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

The snow showers and squalls may quickly reduce the visibility making for hazardous travel conditions. Also, a period of moderate
to heavy snowfall could leave a quick accumulation of an inch or two with locally higher amounts. Roads and walkways may become
snow covered and slippery.

If you will be traveling in Monroe County in Pennsylvania or in the New Jersey counties of Sussex, Warren and Morris be prepared
for hazardous travel. The area includes parts of Interstate 80, Intestate 380 and Interstate 287.

Residence of western New Jersey woke up this morning to near zero morning lows. Yet another arctic cold front will pass through western New Jersey this evening. There will be snow showers and even some snow squalls that will develop late this afternoon and continue into the early overnight hours. These can result in a coating to 1” of snow.

Thursday and Friday will feature daytime highs in the mid teens with windy conditions. Friday morning lows are forecasted to be 5 to 10 BELOW zero!

Beyond that things get interesting and not necessarily in a good way. Saturday will see increasing clouds with a chance of snow late in the day and night. Then warmer air will invade the area and we will see the snow changeover to a wintry mix Saturday night into Sunday. In fact its even possible for us to receive plain rain on Sunday! Hard to imagine after all this cold. If this does happen let’s hope its not too much so the snow doesn’t either melt too fast and provide floods.

I’ll keep an eye on this and provide updates as usual.
