Sleet moving into southern areas

As of 9:45 am mostly sleet is falling in Stewartsville. As seen in the map above this is approaching from the east and southwest. Let’s hope we stay more sleet than freezing rain. Freezing rain is falling in southern PA.

As of 9:45 1.3″ new snow in Stewartsville. This will probably be the total as little will accumulate further with the sleet then rain

...Icy Friday Morning Commute Possible...

A cold front will move across the area tonight. Precipitation with the front will start as rain, but is expected to change to
snow before ending late tonight or early Friday morning. As temperatures fall below freezing by Friday morning, icy
conditions may develop during the morning commute, resulting in
hazardous driving conditions. Anyone planning to drive early
Friday should exercise caution and allow extra time.

0.9" of new snow was recorded in Stewartsville

0.9″ of new snow was recorded in Stewartsville

Snow is over in western New Jersey except for a few flurries here and there. A coating to 1″ was received in western New Jersey as forecast.

A bigger concern is temperatures are starting to slowly fall this afternoon and are now below freezing in most of the area. Winds will pickup as well and gust 20-30 mph out of the NWS. Any melted snow or puddles could re-freeze later on and tonight if untreated so be careful!

Next system for us will be later on Thursday into Thursday night ending in the pre-dawn hours of Friday. This will be a cold front that will pass and have periods of rain. Depending on how fast the cold air comes in behind the cold front and if/where a low pressure system forms on the cold front will determine who and where any snow will occur. Right now this doesn’t look like a big deal and will be another coating to perhaps a few inches.

After that we need to keep an eye on Super Sunday night for another fast moving system. With lots of folks potentially attending parties, this will need to be watched.

Icy spots overnight

Icy spots overnight

756 PM EST Wed Jan 17 2018

...Icy spots will develop on some side roads, untreated parking
lots and sidewalks overnight across New Jersey, Delaware, eastern
sections of Pennsylvania and Maryland...

Temperatures well below freezing will refreeze some of the
leftover moisture from Wednesday`s snowfall, causing slippery
spots on less traveled pavements and possibly freezing some car
doors shut. Be careful when stepping outside and traveling some of
the side roads or moving through the parking lots.

It will take a while for the sun to begin the melting process
late Thursday morning.
