339 AM EDT Mon Aug 6 2018 ...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 7 PM EDT THIS EVENING... * HEAT INDEX VALUES...Between 100 and 104 due to temperatures in the low to mid 90s, and dewpoints in the lower 70s. * TIMING...The highest heat index values will occur during the afternoon into the early evening. * IMPACTS...The heat and humidity may cause heat stress during outdoor exertion or extended exposure. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids...stay in an air-conditioned room...stay out of the sun...and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions...if you work or spend time outside. When possible...reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. The NWS has just issued a heat advisory for southern sections of western New Jersey thru most of the day on Saturday. We will hopefully see some relief from the heat and the humidity starting Sunday afternoon.
Some of the short range computer models are starting to hint there could be scattered thundershowers this afternoon starting as early as 3 pm. Be on the lookout for those if the skies turn stormy. We need all the rain we can get!
