The first of two snow threats passed through western New Jersey overnight. Stewartsville received 0.6″ of snow. A little more snow was recorded further to the south. In fact it’s currently still snowing in south Jersey
The next system will have more moisture to work with. Most of New Jersey is under a Winter Weather Advisory tonight and Tuesday. the exception is further up north in Sussex County which is under a Winter Storm watch. Colder weather will hold on longer up there and they will receive more wintry weather.
Look for snow to return to our area later tonight. It could come in as soon as evening but some computer models are suggesting it holds off until after 10 pm. Snow will continue overnight and be moderate to heavy at times.
Then warmer air will start to approach our area like it has done several times already this winter. This will first change/mix the snow to sleet and then freezing rain. We have the potential to receive a good amount of sleet and freezing rain during the day on Tuesday. When the switchover occurs is something I’ll be keeping an eye on and will update accordingly.
I expect we will receive 3-5″ of snow before the changeover.
Eventually the freezing rain and sleet should change over to rain. This will occur first in southern locations and later up north and west. Some of the highest elevations further to the north may not changeover to plain rain at all or until the very end.
We will be getting another 1-1.5″ of liquid from this storm. Our saturated ground will continue to receive more liquid. Locations further to the north and west will see more snow as seen in the map above
