NWS rain forecast by late Friday

When it rains it pours as the saying goes. More heavy rain, and perhaps even some thunderstorms are in our forecast for the second half of Thursday into Friday morning. The heaviest period might be Thursday night into early Friday morning

the above map shows over 2″ of rain region wide when the storm is done. There could even be more than this, closer to 3″ in some parts of central Jersey.

Winds will be brisk as well, especially in elevated areas and closer to the shore.

I would not be surprised to see some small stream and river flooding as well.

The only good news is we will be on the warm side of this storm and could see high temperatures near 60 on Friday!

NWS forecast of up to 2″ rain Friday

The last thing our region needs is more rain. What I found amazing is we had a stretch of 9 days or so of no measurable rain. Then we receive an additional 1.5″ of rain and the ground is flooded just as much as it was 9 days prior. I think part of the problem is the ground was frozen so the moisture had no place to go.

Unfortunately we are going to have another windy rainy storm later Thursday into Friday. I expect this storm to be another over-producer. Right now the models are forecasting 1.5 – 2″ of new rain. I would prepare for at least 2″ of new rain if not more. And it could turn windy as well. There could be some flooding of streams and rivers.

This is the last thing we need just before the holidays. I’ll provide more updates as they become available.

NWS snow forecast for Thursday

A weak low pressure system will be moving through our area late tonight into Thursday. Sometimes these systems, although weak, are sneaky and can deposit more precipitation than originally thought.

The NWS is forecasting less than 1″ for our area. This is a good forecast. There may be some areas that see a little more than this in areas where the steady snow sets up (if there is any steady snow bands). This should primarily be snow showers

After this system moves by some milder temperatures will be visiting our area. Nothing crazy warm but closer to normal if not slightly above.

Of course with the warmer temperatures comes rain. Our streak of rain free days will come to a close later Friday into Saturday. Right now we expect 1/2″ – 1″ of rain on Saturday. Rain showers may persist into Sunday but Sunday should be the better day of the weekend at this point. Next week looks to have high temperature days in the low 40’s.
